Rationale

Why a Wind Technology Roadmap?

• Wind energy deployment in Canada is a success story, but it is still only at the margin of what it could be;
• Significant research and development opportunities remain to reduce costs and improve performance of wind energy technologies;
• In 2003, EWEA predicted that the main drivers for wind energy cost reductions would be:
  • R&D (40%)
  • economies of scale (60%)
• However, economies of scale have not provided substantial cost savings, and this situation is not expected to change in the near future due to supply constraints;
• Canada needs an action plan that will identify realistic pathways to the resolution of technology, markets and socio-economic challenges
