Industrial Energy Systems | Environmental Technologies

Environmental technologies can help to reduce harmful atmospheric pollutants and waste that would otherwise appear in our environment. Also called green or clean technologies, they often include end-of-pipe technologies for the treatment of pollution after it has been generated. Pollution is generally found in three main media: air (acid rain, SOx, NOx, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), ozone, and particulate matter), soil, and water.

At CanmetENERGY, we research and develop environmental technologies, including technologies from natural gas, technologies for industrial low-grade heat and technologies for waste-oil recycling. This latter process converts used motor oil that would otherwise end up in landfills into usable fuel, thus helping efforts to preserve fossil fuels while lessening our impact on the environment.

We also research and develop deNOx and deSOx technologies that help to reduce atmospheric pollutants. DeNOx and deSOx technologies enable Canadian companies to comply with environmental standards, and support the large-scale introduction of advanced, clean-diesel engines that significantly reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
