BILDTRAD provides an easy way to analyse building envelope energy efficiency and compare energy efficiencies of wall and window combinations in commercial and multi-unit residential buildings. It compares the energy efficiency of your envelope design to the prescriptive requirements set out in the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB) that complements the 1995 National Building Code. Although the Model NECB may not yet have been adopted by your province or territory, it is an excellent baseline for energy-efficient new building construction.
BILDTRAD supports the MNECB's Trade-off Path. Some designers were concerned that regulated minimum requirements could have negative impacts on construction costs and aesthetic criteria. The Trade-offs Path and BILDTRAD were developed in response to that concern. They give designers the flexibility to balance aesthetic and cost considerations with envelope component energy efficiency levels.
This software has been developed by National Research Council of Canada and Natural Resources Canada.

- Compare energy efficiencies of various options and upgrades, using commonly specified or user-defined wall and window systems
- Trade-off energy efficiencies in order to select the most cost-effective combination of materials while maintaining the same overall level of energy efficiency
- Verify that the energy efficiency of the design complies with the MNECB, and generate a report to be attached to the building permit application (where required)
- Windows 95 and Windows NT compatible
- User-friendly. Pull down menus and buttons facilitate selection of location, energy source, orientation, and typical wall systems.

- Once you have downloaded the « biltrad.zip » file to your hard drive, extract the archived files to a temporary directory, i.e. c:\temp
- Run the Setup program, i.e. c:\temp\setup.exe
- Use the Setup Wizard to guide you through the installation process
- To run BILDTRADTM, simply select the program icon from the Start Menu
