Training Course

To promote the use of the CoolSolution® approach for the integration of advanced refrigeration technologies and practices in arenas and curling rinks, CanmetENERGY has developed a training course for building engineers and refrigeration specialists working in this sector.

Objective

Develop the technical skills to assess energy and greenhouse gas emissions reduction potentials of refrigeration applications in arenas and curling rinks. The strategies presented will focus mainly on the integration of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems in buildings based on their operating characteristics. At the end of the course, participants will be able to integrate the CoolSolution® approach into their service proposals to owners and managers of arenas and curling rinks.

Target audience

Building engineers and refrigeration specialists called upon to develop feasibility studies, plans and estimates for major retrofit projects or new construction projects in the arenas and curling rink sector.

Content

  • Profile assessment of building energy demand (load calculation)
  • Basic thermodynamic elements of a refrigeration cycle and presentation of various types of systems currently used
  • Assessment of heat recovery potential (waste heat calculation) of a refrigeration system that is designed to meet the specific requirements of a facility (loads and performance of the refrigeration equipment are taken into account)
  • Identification of heat recovery strategies based on building operating needs.
  • Analysis of floating head pressure effects on the efficiency of refrigeration systems and heat recovery
