Multileisure Facility - Dow Centennial Centre - Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Canada
Opened in September 2004, the Dow Centennial Centre is a multileisure facility which includes 2 ice rinks, as well as a soccer field, a gymnasium, a fitness centre, a 550-seat theatre, conference rooms and art studios.
When the elected officials of Fort Saskatchewan decided to go ahead with the construction of a new multileisure facility, they wanted to offer residents an energy efficient building and opted for CIMCO Refrigeration’s Eco-Chill system.
The Eco-Chill system demonstration project has been achieved in partnership with CanmetENERGY. It has been co-funded by Natural Resources Canada’s Technology Early Action Measures (TEAM) Program.
A CoolSolution® approach
The Eco-Chill refrigeration system of the Dow Centennial Centre has been integrated to the building heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The recovered heat is redistributed in all parts of the building for space heating and hot water preheating.
The Eco-Chill system allows:
- Heat recovery
- Thermal storage
- To operate at variable condensation pressure to benefit from the cold Canadian weather
- To reduce refrigerant quantity and leaks
