Arena - La Pêche, QC, Canada
Opened in September 2005, this new 3,200 m2 building includes an ice rink, bleachers for 350 people, a banquet room, locker rooms, offices, and utility rooms.
When the elected officials in the Municipality of La Pêche in Québec decided to go ahead with the construction of a new arena, they wanted to offer residents an energy efficient building and opted for CIMCO Refrigeration’s Eco-Chill system.
This Eco-Chill system demonstration project has been achieved in partnership with CanmetENERGY and co-funded by Natural Resources Canada’s Technology Early Action Measures Program (TEAM). The project also received financial support from the Office of Energy Efficiency and Hydro-Québec.
A CoolSolution® approach
At the arena of the Municipality of La Pêche, the Eco-Chill refrigeration system has been integrated to the building heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. It allows:
- Heat recovery
- Thermal storage
- To operate at variable condensation pressure to benefit from the cold Canadian weather
Recovered heat is redistributed to all parts of the building for:
- Heating the underfloor
- Radiant heating of rooms and bleachers
- Preheating of domestic water
- Preheating of surfacing water
- Heating the ventilation air
