Claude Doré, Assistant Coordinator, Buildings and Facilities, City of Victoriaville:

Victoriaville is the cradle of sustainable development and here at the municipality we are banking heavily on new technologies and also on any energy savings we can make.

For us the fact that our new system uses less energy and protects the ozone layer and the environment because we don’t use much Freon gas represents an enhanced environmental value.

Michel Allard, City Councillor, City of Victoriaville:

It was difficult for us to get on board; we were not familiar with the new technology. We put our faith in the professionals who came and told us about the refrigeration system. The confidence came during the meetings and we decided to go with this new technology for our multifunctional building here in Victoriaville.

Marc Carrière, Mayor, Val-des-Monts:

Val-Des-Monts has 120 lakes and the mountains, so the environment is important for us. It has been part of a corporate culture for many years. This system is the right fit at every level to meet our objectives.

I think it is attractive from an economic point of view. Certainly, implementing new technologies involve costs, but we had financial help from the federal government, provincial government and Hydro-Quebec, which helped to reduce the additional costs. The other benefit is all the energy savings generated by this concept, while protecting the environment. It is important for us.

Lorna Rosen, City Manager, City of Fort Saskatchewan:

Fort Saskatchewan is a very environmentally conscious municipality. The population is also very environmentally conscious. They insisted, during the planning stages of the installation, that we pay particular attention to potential environmental consequences and that we do everything within our power to reduce such consequences.

In making decisions on the refrigeration system and all other energy initiatives in the building, we have considered both the environmental and the economic impact.
