Our built environment, consisting of houses, buildings, and the communities they form, account for approximately 50% of all energy consumed in Canada. Capturing clean forms of energy and integrating them into our houses and buildings will provide solutions towards achieving a sustainable clean energy future. In fact, the objective is to have our communities become their own main sources of energy – producing clean renewable energy on-site to meet local demands. Energy efficiency and load management are the first steps in setting the stage for this sustainable future. Upon this platform renewable energy can become the principal energy source for the built environment.

Net zero houses, buildings and communities will emerge from new urban planning and building design practices, supported by the introduction of innovative technologies to capture, store, distribute, and optimize renewable energy. The overarching challenge ahead of us is the integration of these pieces to achieve net zero targets, breaking through current limitations to reach high performance, viable market solutions for our daily lives.

CanmetENERGY is established nationally and internationally as a leader in providing energy solutions in built environments. Our clean energy project analysis, modelling and simulation software tools are key enablers of industry’s ability to optimize integrated energy efficient design, comply with code requirements, and qualify for funding and incentives programs.

We work on net zero energy houses and buildings through design integration, advanced HVAC technologies development, rating and labelling support, and regulatory measures deployment.

One of our core strengths is our recognized ability to assemble collaborative teams made up of leading edge industry, academics and other experts to provide research, development and deployment of innovative solutions. We are recognized as one of the most effective shepherds in accelerating the development of energy efficiency, load management, and renewable energy solutions.
